The Laos teachers will explore what’s happening in the Mekong river... and create a mural for their Village classrooms in 2 day Workshops held up and down the Mekong river out of Luang Prabang of what they learn throughout the workshops. Rachel will be talking to them about the science of the river whilst we go though the exploration. They will create large fish from the bottom of the river using a coat hanger and weaving scraps of cloth on netting. Then they will print fish from the middle of the river with a print made with polystyrene and fabric paints and sequins and ribbons { and print pencil case covers from their fish print},then prawns and little fish at the top of the river in fish netting made from scraps of material and netting, ribbons, and sheeting and at the top of the food cycle of the river they will make dragon flies, bugs, beetles and little insects made from plastic bottles. The mural will display the food chain of the inhabitants of the Mekong river. December 2018: We got some help from the Library boat man in Nong Kieow. He told us all about what he thought we should help children to notice in the Mekong river. Every Village workshop was different from each other. The staff from the Luang Prabang library assisted us at each workshop and are marvellous translators. We could not do our work in Laos without Chantha and her staff. We don't speak Laotian and they don't speak english so its a BIG BIG call! We get there in the end though and we all celebrate the part that we play in the teacher's success. The Library staff ran our Mekong river workshop after we left and were very proud of their results. Well done Singsai, Sengdao, Ni, Chanthanay andLinDa. WE too are proud!! Leith and Rachel
