I have worked as a teacher and leader in a variety of contexts in Western Australian and overseas schools from Kindergarten, Primary school to High schools and University. Throughout my journey in education I have been passionate about supporting teachers to create engaging classrooms for student and teacher learning, where students draw, create and make " stuff that matters". I have drawn, drawn, drawn so many times as a teacher, school leader, University lecturer and Teacher Coach, I have lost count of how many large sheets of white paper I have covered in my explorations. I learnt the value of using Visuals to connect with Aspergers and Autistic students in the 1990's and I saw the power of using both the aural and visual pathways for student learning. I saw how powerful drawing was as a communication tool. I saw where creating, making, drawing fitted into the integrated classroom curriculum, beautifully. There are also many 'Gospel according to Leith' ideas in this website. Sorry can't avoid them! Many of these ideas have come to me from wise educators of my past. The work that we have done in Laos has been achieved in collaboration with Doctor Rachel Sheffield from Curtin University who is a passionate Science STEM educator. I am immensely grateful for the stimulation that this wonderful work has given me to remain passionate about classroom teaching and learning. Curious students with curious teachers create curious classrooms. Working with teachers is and has been my career.
